Total Health Pharmacy is able to provide a free and confidential emergency hormonal contraceptive service (the morning after pill) following an appropriate consultation. In addition information and advice will be given about general sexual health, preventing pregnancy and contraceptive options. The service is easily accessible at any time during our opening hours.
Contraceptive Supply
From April 2011, Total Health Pharmacy has been selected to take part in a pilot scheme with the Norfolk Primary Care Trust to offer, where appropriate, the initiation of regular contraception (the pill) following the failure of, or no contraceptive protection resulting in the need for the EHC service described above. This scheme is being trialled in a drive to reduce the number of contraceptive failures or unplanned pregnancies amongst the population.
Chlamydia Screening
There is an increase in Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) especially in the under 25s. Chlamydia is a bacterial STD which affects 10% of the young sexually active population. It can be dealt with very effectively using antibiotics but only if you know you have it. The problem with Chlamydia is that 75% of patients are symptomless. It is easily spread so the potential for infecting sexual partners is great.
Possible Symptoms
Non specific symptoms can include vaginal or penile discharge, abdominal pain, bleeding and pain when passing urine.
Untreated Chlamydia can result in infertility.
The source of infection is from unprotected sexual contact i.e. sex without a condom.
Screening
At Total Health Pharmacy we are able to offer a FREE testing kit to people aged 16 to 25. This is a confidential service that allows you to send a sample for testing. Results are sent directly back to you without any involvement with your GP or any other agency.
At Total Health Pharmacy our Pharmacist will offer you confidential support and advice and is available to answer any questions that you may have. For your discretion, we have a private consultation room.
If you are over 25 years old, there is a product called Clamelle that you can purchase from the pharmacy that will provide a similar testing service.
